Made for farmers, not bookkeepers.
A short history of FarmBiz, plus an honest answer to the question we get most often.
In the beginning
In 1976, Wally Hoffman started his farm business analysis entrepreneurial journey. This was long before personal computers became commonplace. Imagine farmers and ranchers mailing in their data sheets, clerks keypunching data into an IBM mainframe computer with a footprint the size of a 4-car garage, clunking out reports.
In the eighties, Wally became involved with the Minnesota State AG school and their Farm Business Management Program. This ongoing involvement with instructors and students allowed Wally to create then refine input screen formats, workflows, chart of accounts… you name it… using priceless input from actual farmers and ranchers.
Decades of commonsense development. Our slogan… "Made for farmers, not bookkeepers"… is not hollow.
In 2025, Wally decided that it was time to sell his company and simply enjoy life. Can't argue with that.

The new Farm Biz
Enter "us"… the new owners. Was Wally a farmer or rancher? No. Are we? No, but our Managing Partner is also a tractor man. We are a small group with extensive backgrounds in software programming, plus multiple other business sectors. Success requires many things, including knowing your financial reality in real time. Farm Biz helps you make this a strong suit. Farm Biz cannot continue thriving unless you do. We will do our part.
We occasionally get asked this logical question… "Why are you guys priced so much less than your competitors?"
The answer is it's a strategy made possible by low overhead. There aren't many employee mouths to feed, and ownership does not take a paycheck; we are in it for the long haul. And no expenses associated with large offices, big marketing budgets, wardrobe dry cleaning, etc.
Fortunately, we don't have stockholders' earnings reports to be consumed by. We answer only to our customers, so our focus is limited to the product and you. If we take care of you, the business grows. Reasonable pricing is a key part of this.
Same number we've answered for years.
